A gastronomic and festive experience at the Sauerkraut Festival in Krautergersheim
Sunday morning, from 10 hours the village came alive :
THE 70 exhibitors took place in the streetss while the members of the associations finished making the floats.
A 9h30, the church bells announced the mass of thanksgiving dedicated to the harvests. A l’issue, près de 200 kilos of fruits and vegetables left by the villagers and blessed during the celebration were offered to a charity. A way of showing that Krautergersheim knows how to party but doesn't forget your neighbor.
A dish of garnished sauerkraut was again served to the 1500 people who had taken place under the marquee, cleaned overnight by a handful of volunteers.
A 11h00, activities took place in the streets of the village with craftsmen, marché de saison, cabbage cutting demonstration, music, open house of Ades sauerkraut
From 11:30 a.m., we could taste the famous sauerkraut under a marquee with musical entertainment provided by the Marylou orchestra
A 15H30, the folkloric procession took place from the Place des Fêtes. Folk groups with their traditional costume, local brass bands or those from elsewhere and floats made on the theme of cabbage (obviously !), by volunteers from Krautergersheim associations made up this procession.
Refreshments run by the associations allowed everyone to eat (tartes flambées, snacks and sauerkraut, waffles and cakes of all kinds).
On the village square, there was a cabbage cutting demonstration. Spectators were entitled to their bag of raw sauerkraut straight from this rather bizarre machine..
Visitors strolled between the artisans' stands, traders and sauerkraut makers who offered sauerkraut in all its forms (crue, cooked, in a bag ready to eat).
It was a beautiful day !!
